Devperry; You are not back at the drawing board. This Marlin Model '93 is a 1920's,maybe 1930's gun. It is not possible for a Model 1893 or '93 to have been made in 1884! The Model 1893 did not come out until 1893. The fact that your gun's serial number is under the lever puts the time after 1921.The serial number is MR 24XXXC. It has "WG" stamped on the left side of the barrel near the receiver. There is no "JM" or "REP" on the barrel. It says Marlin Arms Co, North Haven, CT on one side. Otherwise it tooks just like the picture on the current Marlin website: golden trigger, light flat finish, cut checking on the stock, cross-bolt ...The Genfield's used the same serial numbers as the Marlin's. The model 57, might have a 2 letter code on the barrel, if so you can go to the part on the serial number sheets, that says Non 39A's 22's. This will only work if it it was made between 1962 and early 1968. Otherwise there were no serial numbers on non 39A's 22's, from 1935- 1968.

The Marlin model 39A was put into production in 1939. So it's impossible for yours to have been made earlier than that. A possibility is that you do not have a model 39A - you have an earlier made Marlin which has had a model 39A barrel put on it as a replacement. I have a 1957 39A with the letter "P" (early 1957) in the serial number, plainly struck and not a partial "R" (late 1957). I don't see it on your list but did find it over at the Marlin Firearms Collector Association site.
