Right now I'm running some Federal HST 147gr. Recently saw an article that most people were thinking 124gr was better, faster, etc.First off the 147 garnered the reputation for plugging up and not expanding causing the overpenatration early on from old designed hollow points.the newer technology of reverse taper jackets and bonding has made this a thing of the past.the HST is a great bullet and will expand properly under a wide variety of circumstances. the 124gr works well too although I prefer the +p version IMHO that ...

After attending ballistic workshops from both manufacturers, my opinion was that the expansion and penetration were close enough that it didn't matter.The HST is not as good of a barrier blind load as the Critical Duty at least thru some barriers, particularly safety glass. HST is not particularly good thru safety glass and does not meet FBI standards for that test. Ballistics show the HST 124gr to have a penetrating depth of 18.3" and an expansion of .61" while the HST 147gr penetrates 15.2" and also expands to .61".
